Problem Solved – Slow Hard Drive

Slow Hard Drive

Symptom: Excessive program load times, slow file transfers.

Solution: Disk defragmentation

Disorganized information on your hard drive can slow performance because the computer requires more time to sift through data fragments and bad sectors on the drive. This problem can be cleared up easily (but not especially quickly; defragging can sometimes take hours) using the built-in Windows tool called Disk Defragmenter. You can access this program through the Programs menu in the Accessories or System Tools folder. Simply click the Analyze button to see if your disk drive requires defragmenting, and then click Defragment to begin

Other options include Defraggler, which offers exceptional features to clean up your HDD.

Piriform’s Defraggler tool is easily the best free defrag software program out there. It can defrag the data or just the free space of an internal or external drive. You also have the option of defragmenting specific files or folders and nothing more.

Defraggler can run a boot time defrag, check a drive for errors, empty the Recycle Bin before defragging, exclude certain files from a defrag, run an idle defrag, and selectively move lesser-used files to the end of the drive to speed up disk access, the program is also available in a portable version for flash drives.

If the Piriform company sounds familiar, you may already be familiar with their very popular free CCleaner (system cleaning) or Recuva (data recovery) software.

Defraggler can be installed on Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP, as well as Windows Server 2008 and 2003.

You can also consider replacing the laptop with a quality refurbished laptop from ALM Wholesale LTD, laptops start from just £30.00 and are available for worldwide shipping.Visit www.almwholesaleltd.com for our LIVE stock list for full product and services.
